You'd think this town would be able to handle one inch of snow a little better. It's not like this is south Texas or Florida that gets snow a few times a decade. We get snow at least a few times every winter, and we've gotten dumped on pretty good the last 3 years. Nevertheless, lots of people had the length of their commute doubled or tripled or more today. Luckilly, mine wasn't so bad. It was slow, but I was at least moving the whole time. No black ice, just hard packed snow in between tire tracks for me.

Before this came through though, I did get two more days of riding in. Tuesday, I was back at Lost Valley for the 4th time in 6 days. I think this might be some kind of record for me. The single track was in pretty good shape, so I did the same 15 mile route that I took last Friday night. There were only two really mushy spots where walking was necessary, and one of them was a bit of a relief because it meant I didn't have to descend the hill in the dark. With all of the riding though, my legs were shot at the end of the ride.
Wednesday was my version of the Last Chance Workout. However, I probably would've gotten yelled at by Jillian (I know she's not on Biggest Loser anymore, but I don't know who's replaced her) if I was on the show because all I did was a quick spin from the office out onto the Chesterfield Levee Trail, went to one end of it, then turned around and came back. I don't think length of the workout cracked 40 minutes.
Fortunately, when I woke up today for the weekly weigh-in, my home scale was showing the same number as yesterday, and I was down 1.5 lbs for the week on the official scale. While didn't win the weekly drawing, I moved into 2nd place for the overall standings. Only problem is that the current leader is starting to run away from everyone. I think I need to drop 4 more just to catch up with him, and he's averaging 2 pounds a week right now. But the contest goes until May, so I still have time. So long as the weather cooperates, I have a chance. I like to eat too much to diet alone, but if I can ride, I can at least work off those calories.
With the snow and the 40° drop in temps, I'm taking a couple days off from riding to let my legs recover, but Saturday I plan to head out with Team Virtus and experience the Berryman Trail for the first time. It's 24 miles of singletrack, so we'll see if I get in over my head or not. My typical single track rides are in the neighborhood of 7-10 miles (I don't really count Lost Valley in this since there's so much double track there), so it'll definitely be a challenge. As they pointed out, if I fall in over my head, there are lots of roads you can bail out on, but I don't intend to do that. Check back later this weekend for a full report!
